I am so saddened by this. Over on the storm board I belong to we watched this storm progress from the time it dropped down until it expired. It looks like it was obscured by hail & rain and being at night, Lord have mercy. I have never seen a clearer hook on radar than what I saw last night & I've been watching storms like this for 25 years.

I am so glad you are ok. I hope & pray we can get those people some help very quickly.

The tornado is the hook in the image below. You NEVER see it so pronounced unless it is very powerful. The hook is the purple to the northeast of Greensburg after it hit there. This may be the first true EF5 (no longer just F5) tornado since 1999.

Tornadoes scare me. We just get itty bitty ones here. What do they do if one hits during the night? How do they let people know? I can't imagine people watching TV all night, or listening to a radio. Are there sirens? We don't have sirens here, except the one for the Nuclear Power Station. They test it every 1st Monday of the month - and it is LOUD.

Stay safe. Those are some nasty, nasty looking storms.

My prayers to all those in Greensburg. They have a long road ahead... Sad

I have a weather alert radio, so if a severe storm comes up, it will wake me up, it's a good thing to have.

It was just given an EF5 rating. At its widest it was 1.7 miles according to doppler. A storm chaser got a photo of the wedge during a lightning flash :

I hope more storms don't pop up today but I see the watches/warnings are up from Texas north.
